On 28 December 2020, Mr Chen Song was driving when he failed to give way to oncoming traffic with the right of way when making a non-signalised right turn. This resulted in a collision with a victim riding a motorcycle who received 45 days of hospitalisation leave following the injuries sustained alongside extensive damage to the vehicle. On an appeal against his sentence, the Singapore High Court laid down a new sentencing framework for careless driving offences.
Mr Chen Song was represented by Hoh Law Corporation.
In light of the decision in Chen Song's case, the Singapore Parliament is currently reviewing amendments to be made to the Road Traffic Act 2019.
