CHINA WORKER GETS $92,000 FOR FINGERS SLICED OFF AT WORK

A foreign worker who had just arrived to work in Singapore for a week had two of his fingers sliced off, in a worksite accident wholly attributable to the negligence of his employer. In a compensation claim against his employer Zhong Jiang (S) International, the worker was awarded $92,000, equivalent to 10 years’ worth of wages for him based on his monthly salary of $750.

COMPENSATION FOR DEATH ON WORK TRIP

Following a High Court ruling, the widow of an employee who had passed away in a hotel room in Cambodia while waiting to be taken to a meeting, may now qualify for a claim under workmen’s compensation. Compensation of up to $140,000.00 will be payable under the Work Injury Compensation Act because the man’s death, likely from a heart attack, was an accident that happened in the course of employment.
